The Family: A Proclamation to the World

Read: The Family: A Proclamation to the World HERE

Sometimes the world is a scary place, and this post is just my own opinion and I hope that it won't be taken the wrong way.

As I have seen many profile pictures on facebook changed today in support for gay marriage equality I couldn't help but think about everything I have learned in my Preparing for a Celestial Marriage class.

Towards the beginning of this semester we were talking about how the world is changing, and how same sex marriage is something that is constantly being pushed for. My teacher stated something that has stuck with me since.
"As a church we do not discriminate, we just defend marriage between a man and a women. We can stand in what we do believe in love and kindess."

I also love this quote by President Uchtdorf:
“Absolute truth is not dependent upon public opinion or popularity. Polls cannot sway it. Not even the inexhaustible authority of celebrity endorsement can change it.”
-President Uchtdorf

I know not many people read my blog, but I hope you remember that as the world's standards are changing, the principles and doctrines from Christ NEVER will. He made the perfect plan for man and women to be married and sealed in the temple for time and all eternity. With the wonderful blessing of being able to have children, to teach them the ways of our Father in Heaven.  I am so grateful for the family I have and the example they have set for me.

a curve ball of sorts

September/November 2012- I was debating if I wanted to go back to Oakcrest or go on a humanitarian trip to Africa. I called up Serenade and made the decision to apply for Assistant Director to see if it was right for me to go back.

-I soon got the call back that I didn't get Assistant Director position, but I still felt good about going back to Oakcrest as a counselor.

Fast forward to January/February-I loved Oakcrest but I decided not to go back. I was going to go on a humanitarian trip and experience a summer in Logan. I declined my interview for counselor, and moved on. I'm not going to lie though, when the staff was hired I was a little jealous and I couldn't help to wonder what if I had gone to my interview. Would I have been hired back?

End of February-to Today: My contract for summer and next school year housing is signed. Though Britney and I hadn't officially decided where we were going on our humanitarian trip, we were determined that it was going to happen.

Monday, March 4th- I had heard about the Assistant Director quitting Oakcrest, and I couldn't help but think they were going to ask me to fill the position. (This isn't meant to sound selfish) but I quickly brushed the feeling off, because I had plans and they were going to ask someone else.

Tuesday, March 5th-The Director and other Assistant Director showed up at my apartment and asked me if I would be willing to fill the position of Assistant Director. Words cannot describe the emotions and thoughts that went through me. I told them I would think about it and get back to them.

Wednesday/Thursday-I have never felt better about anything. As I continued to pray about it, I felt the immense love of my Heavenly Father. Thursday night it became official. "Sharkbait" would be going back to the Lord's camp for another summer. The other director was meant to be there the amount of time she was. I don't know her, but I know she is incredible and did great things for the coming summer at Oakcrest.

I am so incredibly grateful for this Gospel and the chance I have to return to Oakcrest with a staff I already love. I know everything happens for a reason. Heavenly Father has a plan for each and everyone of us. Putting all of our faith and trust in him is essential. I have never been happier!
